Since I went into this season expecting three groups and we've ended up with just two, I've had to make a few adjustment to our concept and design for the JV show.
....actually.... I've changed it altogether.
I wanted to pick something very specific that would fit the group we have. Since the overall theme of all the Bordeaux Winterguard shows this year is Body and Movement, I knew I needed to pick something that would lend itself to a lot of movement, but that still has a beat that moves and doesn't stagnate.
You guys already know I love modern music divas who know how to work a stage. So, what better way to turn our JV ladies into moxilicious DIVAS than with a modern DIVA to model ourselves after?
Plus.... this video.... it's the epitome of good movement fundamentals.
So.... here's the REAL 2015 Bordeaux JV show title: "Something in the Water"
Ya'll know I have a borderline obsession with Carrie Underwood.
Here are the much anticipated results of the 2015 Bordeaux Winterguard Auditions!!!!! Congratulations to all those who auditioned!!!! You impressed a VERY talented and knowledgeable judging panel, and I am proud of how well you performed. You certainly made these decisions DIFFICULT to make!!!

Again, CONGRATULATIONS to all who auditioned!!!! These decisions were not easy, but the judges were VERY impressed with the quality of your auditions!!! This is something to be very proud of!! I cannot WAIT to begin the season with you guys!!! It is going to be a WONDERFUL year for all of our indoor groups here at New Albany.
Here are a few last minute reminders before this afternoon:
1- The auditions will happen in the following order: Majorettes, Cadets, High School. All audition groups will have 4 performers in them, with the exception of the first 3 majorette groups which will have 3 performers in each. The groups are as follows:
MAJORETTE GROUP 1: Kylie Harrison (1), Haley Bullock (2), and Brooke Roaten (3)
MAJORETTE GROUP 2: Sanders Goode (4), Adalyn Aldridge (5), and Sarah Gaines (6)
MAJORETTE GROUP 3: Maggie Moore (7), Katelin Denham (8), Maggie Creekmore (9)
HS GROUP 6: Victoria Adams (38), Joshanae Tucker (39), Hannah Holt (40)
2- After the auditions are finished, you are to LEAVE the band hall area. I will NOT post results until I know the building is empty.
3- Audition results will be posted in two places: On the Band Hall Door and on this blog. The results will be posted on the Band Hall Door before they are posted on the blog. I will post the results for all 3 ensembles in a SINGLE blog entry.
4- Remember that you need your WHITE T-SHIRT/TANK TOP, BLACK SHORTS, AND BLACK LEGGINGS for auditions. Guard shoes may be worn, but barefoot is preferred (exception: majorettes: wear your dance shoes or cougars - whichever you have).
5- For those of you who make the Varsity or JV ensembles, the body clinic previously scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled. There are NO PLANS OR ACTIVITIES scheduled for any Bordeaux Ensemble on Saturday, November 15th.
6- Please remember that the decision of the judges is final and is not up for dispute, as per the terms of your pre-audition contract. Also remember that your contract is a commitment to participate in the Bordeaux Winterguard's 2015 season, REGARDLESS of what ensemble you are placed in. You will be placed where the judges feel you should be placed based on your skill level at the time of auditions.
Finally: GOOD LUCK!!!!!! I'm proud of how much each of you has already grown through the audition process, and it is the GROWTH that matters!!! Strut your stuff, work your MOXIE, and show those judges what New Albany's Auxiliary units are all about!!!!!
Bordeaux Varsity will be performing SHATTER ME for the 2015 Indoor Season.
Show Track: "Shatter Me" by Lindsey Stirling
Because this show is designed for our top ensemble, it will push and challenge our performers in the best and most effective ways possible. We will explore new areas of body that we haven't visited before, and we will start getting heavier into weapon work.
We are also going to spend the season learning all about projection and how to sell a show to the audience. This is because....
WE ARE GOING TO BE BALLERINAS!!! (and I do mean literally). The concept for the show is taken directly from the music video for the song. Take a look and see what I mean:
The floor will be split in half: The first half represents the crystal ball the girls are captured in, and the second half represents the world outside of ball. We'll start the show on pedastals, just like Lindsey is standing on in the video. As the show progresses, we'll slowly break free from the crystal ball until it no longer remains and all the girls are free to be who they are, without the confines of a crystal ball telling them who they can and cannot be.
The girls will wear this costume:

Go big or go home, right?!?!?
....I am SO STINKING EXCITED about this show!!!! It is going to be unlike anything the Bordeaux Winterguards have done before, and the production of this show is going to ROCK THE HOUSE!!!
Bordeaux JV will be all about self-discovery and appreciation this year. The show will focus on being true to oneself, and it will take the audience on a journey from trying to blend in to learning to stand out.
The girls will wear this costume:

The work will continue to mature and develop each performer, and will include body, flag, and weapon elements within it.
This show is all about being who you are and loving every part of yourself. I cannot wait to share it with you once it hits the floor!!!
The girls are going to stay true to the sassy style of the Bordeaux Cadets, and there is NO better way to do that than with a Carrie Underwood song.
As with last year's show, Goodbye Shoes will focus on the continued development of those fundamental techniques learned in previous years and will push the girls toward more advanced levels of performance.
We will use this costume, paired with black leggings:

This is definitely one show you are NOT going to want to miss!!! Especially the ending.... their may or may not be stiletto heels involved.... :D:D:D:D
The girls will be exploring the use of Body under their equipment this season, and the show will have a body-specific feature in it as well.
We will use this costume in silver:

The show itself is going to be full of SASS and attitude!!! The girls are going to continue strutting their stuff and showing off their MOXIE during Indoor Season! This is one show you are NOT going to want to miss!!!!
The show will still showcase all of the fundamentals we'll be learning through the course of the season, but it will be done with a little bit of MJ flair.
So saddle up and get ready to learn!!! We're going to THRILL the audience by the time the showcase arrives!
A quick update on our upcoming show announcements:
Due to the cancellation and subsequent postponing of the State Marching Evaluations at Tupelo this past weekend, I'm going to postpone our show reveal so our focus stays where it needs to be this weekend. Remember that we must qualify for Championships before we get to go, and this has to happen at Tupelo! This is why I'm pushing back the date.
With that said, your 2015 show announcements will happen on Friday, October 24th!!! That'll give us this week to focus on our Evaluations, and it will give us a weekend to get the excitement out of our systems, so we can then (hopefully) refocus our attention on finishing our marching season with a strong performance at Championships!
Thanks for being patient with these show announcements. I know you are excited! I cannot WAIT to share them with you!!!
.....but, please........ let's get through State Marching Evaluations first!!!! :D
Band night is NOT the only good thing happening on October 17th!!!!!!
You've all been asking, our costumes have been approved, and I'm working on finalizing all of the details that make our shows what they are.
All 5 show concepts will be announced on October 17th. This includes Bordeaux Varsity, Bordeaux JV, Bordeaux Cadets, Bordeaux Majorettes, and Bordeaux Beginner Guard.
Each ensemble will have their own blog entry, and I will post them separately, starting with the Beginner Guard and working up to Bordeaux Varsity. Each post will include the show title, song selection, costume photo, and story line of the show the post is for.
I hope all of you remember how EXCITED I was last year about the shows we did! They were wonderful, and you guys rocked them!!! BUT......
I am TWICE as excited about this year as I was about last year!!!!! As we grow and develop together, the types of shows we are able to do become more and more limitless. This year is no exception. All of these shows have been designed with YOU in mind, and I cannot wait to share them with you!!!!
So mark your calendars, ladies and gents!!!! The 2015 Indoor Season will be here BEFORE YOU KNOW IT!!!!!
Since we are working to establish a very supportive and inclusive auxiliary environment, this seemed like the next logical step in integration. I'm excited about how far we have come, and I am even more excited about where we are going from here.
Here's to the future of the Bordeaux Winterguards!!! Stay tuned in the coming weeks for updates about auditions and your show designs!
Most all of you have seen videos flooding your social media pages of people you know taking the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Many of you have been challenged yourselves, as have your band staff.
Here's what we're going to do.
We are going to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, but we're going to do it as a competition between the Auxiliary Units (Colorguard/Majorettes) and the Drumline. Beginning tomorrow we will have 2 buckets set up in the band hall to deposit your money into. One bucket will be for us, the other will be for the drumline. The group that has the most money at the end of the week not only wins, but gets to dump buckets of ice water on the other group!
For example: If the Auxiliary units win, we get to dump buckets of water on the drumline. (YAY!)
If the Drumline wins, they get to dump buckets of water on us. (BOO!)
You can also get your classmates in on the action! If you have a favorite instrumentalist (or two... or three... or... TWELVE) who would like to help donate to a GREAT cause, or who would like to see a drumline member get soaked, have them help out!
...granted this also works in reverse too, so befriend a few (or a lot of) hornline members!!! We do NOT want to get beaten by the NA Drumline!!!!
The results of this contest will be announced during the 4th quarter of the ballgame on Friday night, and the losers will be soaked back at the band hall after the game is over.
The clock is ticking!!!! Bring in your piles of change and all those dollars you know you shouldn't be spending on candy bars and cokes!!! All the money going into either bucket will be donated to the ALS Association, in hopes of one day finding a cure for this horrible disease.
So get to crackin' girls!!! We've got lives to help save, and a few drumline members to freeze!!!!
You've all heard me talking about it, so here is your Friday Night Make-Up Look for this Fall!!!
SN: This is just for Friday night! Your show make-up will have a few extras thrown in there so we step it up for contest in every way imaginable!
Here's what you're going to need:
The Urban Decay Electric Palette
A good liquid eyeliner in black
A kohl pencil, or other type of eyeliner pencil that smears easily, also in black
Black mascara - the bigger the lashes the better!
Bronzer / Brown-based blush for contour
A neutral, pink lip stick (neutral.... not nude)
Your preferred brow pencil / powder
***There are a number of good UD Electric Palette dupes on the market, but the original is still the best. I cannot stress the importance of having this palette enough!! I'll be using it for almost ALL of your make-up looks from here until... well.... the end of forever!!!
We're using Chrisspy's Electric Palette Tutorial to make this look happen. Watch it here:
When we're doing looks that are this BOLD, its super important not to neglect your eyebrows!!! If you aren't sure how to make them happen, you can check out the following tutorials. Chrisspy is a CHAMP at eyebrow technique, so I've attached her most recent brow tutorial first. If you're more of a novice with your eyebrows and aren't sure the gradient look is for you, I've also attached a couple of other tutorials to check out! Whatever works for you works for me... just be sure they aren't left alone!!
Remember with Eyebrows that the distance you set them apart should be determined by your nose and how you want it to appear. The closer your eyebrows are together, the smaller your nose appears. The farther apart they are, the wider your nose looks. Keep this in mind when determining what your eyebrow shape is and where it begins and ends.... just be sure they aren't TOO close or TOO far apart!
Here's one final Chrisspy video for those of you who aren't sure what contouring is or how it is done. She's using all powders to contour, and is using Benefit's High Beam to highlight. If you're interested in something different, YouTube the Kim Kardashian contour method to see another way of achieving the same effect.
Hopefully this will give you an idea of where to go and what to do from here!!! Get out those mirrors and start practicing!!! Remember that MOXIE is delivered to the judges and the audience from your FACE well before it is delivered with your body and equipment work!!!
Tonight was New Albany High School's 2014 Meet the Bulldogs!!! All of the Fall sports were introduced, including the band and our beautiful majorettes!
After the band was recognized we snapped a few pictures, and I also had the chance to get a couple of pictures of the senior girl's paw prints. Each senior gets to paint / decorate one of the paw prints that lead down to the stadium. Here are the paw prints our senior majorettes painted!!!
Tonight is the official beginning of the Fall season, and the girls are fired up and ready! Let the games and competitions begin!!!
It is my pleasure to introduce you to the ladies of the 2014 New Albany High School Varsity Majorette line!!
These 5 ladies have been hard at work this season learning their show routines and practicing the pregame show, which includes a fire baton feature. This year's Varsity Majorettes are:
Brooke Roaten, Captain
Hannah Humphreys
Sarah Gaines
Kylie Harrison
Adalyn Aldridge
Come on out to the August 29th home game to see what all the fuss is about!!! You will not be disappointed!
